Encoded Expressions is an independent conceptual art project that explores the hidden structures embedded in texts and number sequences. Developed and carried forward by artist Yona Roöri since 2003, the project transforms sequences of letters and numbers into abstract visual compositions. Working with material as diverse as poetry, prayers, affirmations, literary fragments, and public data like lottery results, the project uncovers and visualizes the “DNA of expression” within everyday language and numerical patterns.

The project is grounded in Roöri’s long-standing fascination with numerology, gematria, sacred geometry, and symbolic systems. Rather than interpreting the literal meaning of a text, she draws out its internal structures—its recurring forms, mirrored alignments, and rhythmic flow—using a self-developed, manual decoding system. This process reflects both analytical precision and intuitive design, bridging the worlds of data, mysticism, and visual art.

In this context, “DNA” is metaphorical: it refers not to genetics but to the essential architecture or blueprint embedded within every source—be it poetic verse or random digits. Each artwork becomes a unique expression of a structure that usually remains invisible, revealing silent intelligence and hidden order.

Encoded Expressions is both a visual and contemplative experience. It presents art that evolves from internal logic rather than visual improvisation—offering a new lens for perceiving the hidden rhythms that structure our thoughts, beliefs, and data.

OBJECTIVES

1. Revealing Hidden Patterns
To uncover and make visible the underlying structure—what Roöri calls the "DNA"—within texts and numbers.

2. Artistic Transformation
To translate conceptual patterns into abstract visual form, offering viewers a new appreciation for the complexity of written and numerical systems.

3. Exploring Essence Through Structure
To access the unseen logic and rhythm that give identity to words and numbers, using visual language to evoke its internal coherence.

EXHIBITIONS

Exhibitions, installations, and mixed media presentations for Encoded Expressions are currently in development and set to launch in 2025, supported by early collectors, project followers, and patrons. This evolving body of work will be presented through a combination of large-format prints, silk-based editions, textile applications, and immersive installation concepts.

Each exhibition will focus on creating a contemplative, multi-sensory environment where viewers can explore the silent patterns embedded in texts and numbers—visually translated into form, rhythm, and structure. Select pieces will be displayed as wall-mounted prints, suspended textile works, mixed media formats, and digital projections integrated into installation spaces.

Audiences will be invited to engage with these works emotionally, intuitively, and conceptually—experiencing how structure, repetition, and rhythm shape the essence of language and data. These exhibitions offer a fresh perspective on the hidden dimensions of expression, transforming familiar sources into spaces of visual meditation and quiet revelation.

ARTIST BIO

Yona Roöri is a Paris-based conceptual artist with Finnish and Ukrainian roots, whose work investigates the hidden structural relationships within texts and number sequences. Her signature project, Encoded Expressions, was first initiated as a personal creative outlet in 2003 while she worked professionally in the finance field. What began as a hobby rooted in childhood fascination with numbers gradually evolved into a methodical visual practice centered around the search for pattern, structure, and unseen logic within everyday materials.

Her self-developed system for decoding visual “DNA” from written and numerical sources bypasses traditional symbolic interpretation. Instead, it captures how form emerges from the internal design of the source itself—using position, rhythm, balance, and arrangement as artistic code. The project began with digital prints and has since grown to include installations and mixed media works that reflect both analytical precision and intuitive vision.

Roöri’s art invites viewers into an intimate and often meditative experience—revealing how hidden order can live inside randomness, and how language and numbers can carry visual music within their silence.
