Yona Roöri is a conceptual artist, the creator of Encoded Expressions and the original Visual DNA methodology, a practice she has developed and refined since 2003.
Her work grew from a lifelong fascination with numbers, patterns, symbolic systems and the structures that exist beneath what we immediately see. What began as an experiment with letters and numerical sequences gradually led to a remarkable artistic discovery: meaningful sources could generate their own distinct visual structures when transformed through a consistent manual process.
This discovery became the foundation of Yona Roöri’s artistic development. Currently based in France, she continues to expand Encoded Expressions through a practice shaped by an international life and perspective.
Working with sources ranging from literature, poetry and personal letters to prayers, songs, musical notes and numerical sequences, she transforms material normally read, heard or interpreted into abstract visual compositions. Rather than illustrating the literal meaning of a source, her work explores the structures, relationships and rhythms that emerge from within it.
Her practice brings together analytical precision and artistic intuition, moving between conceptual art, abstraction, mixed media, photography and an expanding range of physical applications.
At the heart of Yona Roöri’s work is a continuing fascination with what may exist beyond immediate perception: how something familiar can reveal an unexpected visual identity when encountered through an entirely different language.
